Best in Show to Amarone and Platinum to Ripasso

Cantina di Soave won impressive results at this month’s 15th annual Decanter wine competition, one of the world’s most authoritative, thanks to the number of wines entered every year, the rigour of its tasting procedures, and the unquestioned professionalism of its judges. The medals -Gold, Silver, and Bronze – are awarded according to strict scores, with the best wines in each category awarded the Platinum Medal; the Platinum Medal wines are then subjected to a final tasting in order to determine the highest possible award: Best in Show.
These are precisely the awards, Best in Show and Platinum, that Cantina di Soave won in this year’s competition, not to mention one Silver and five Bronze Medals.

In detail, this year’s Cantina di Soave medal-winners are:

  • CADIS Amarone Della Valpolicella DOCG 2015: BEST IN SHOW
  • ROCCA SVEVA Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso DOC 2013: PLATINUM
  • ROCCA SVEVA Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva DOCG 2012: SILVER
  • ROCCA ALATA Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG 2015: BRONZE
  • ROCCA ALATA Soave Classico DOC 2017: BRONZE
  • VILLA RASINA Soave Classico DOC 2017: BRONZE
  • ROCCA SVEVA Soave Classico DOC 2017: BRONZE
  • SETTECENTO33 Spumante Lessini Durello DOC: BRONZE

As this list makes clear, the medal – winning wines were from different denominations: the great reds of Valpolicella, Ripasso and Amarone; Soave Classico, sovereign of the area’s white wines; and native-grape Lessini Durello sparkling wine. In effect, all of Cantina di Soave’s main denominations received medals.
Another aspect that should be underscored is that the Decanter judges awarded medals to wines of different product lines. The CADIS Amarone is Cantina di Soave’s standard-bearer for retail chain distribution, as are Amarone and Soave Classico of the Rocca Alata portfolio and the Villa Rasina Soave Classico. Soave Classico and Ripasso Rocca Sveva, together with Spumante Settecento33, on the other hand, are key products aimed at the upscale Hotel, Restaurant, and Catering sector.

«This is simply one more confirmation that high quality is consistent through all of our product lines – commented Cantina di Soave General Manager Bruno Trentini – our general-distribution CADIS Amarone was named Best of Show, at the same time our ROCCA SVEVA Ripasso, in our very top product line, was awarded Platinum. I won’t list all the other medals, since what I find really impressive is that Decanter awarded its medals to wines across different denominations and made for different product distribution channels, thus paying tribute to a quality level without exceptions or differences».
