Cantina di Soave will take a leading role in a project benefitting Soave’s historic city walls, an initiative on which it has been collaborating with the town of Soave for some time now and which will be officially launched when Vinitaly and the City opens in Soave. This will be the third year, in fact, that the Vinitaly wine fair stages an off-site satellite event; the first three were in Verona, Bardolino, and Valeggio sul Mincio, and this year Soave will be one of the stages.
Cantina di Soave’s benefit contribution consists in a limited edition of Soave Classico in its prestigious Rocca Sveva line, which will be sold in its wine shop at Rocca Sveva and at all the local outlets that are participating in the project. Whoever purchases a bottle will be supporting the cause, since Cantina di Soave will donate part of the revenue to the town of Soave for the restoration of the city walls. This history-rich, enchanting town, a proud bearer of the Touring Club Italiano’ coveted Bandiera Arancione since 2003, boasts a majestic castle whose imposing walls completely embrace its medieval quarter. It is this priceless heritage that the Cantina has decided to protect.
«One’s love for one’s own area – explained General Manager of Cantina di Soave Bruno Trentini – should be expressed not only in intentions, but by actual deeds as well. So the idea came to me, immediately and enthusiastically shared by Soave Mayor Gaetano Tebaldi, of creating a limited edition of our world-class Rocca Sveva Soave Classico and donating part of the proceeds to the restoration of Soave’s walls».
The city will officially unveil the initiative on Friday 13 April, the opening day of Vinitaly and the City, with an event from 9.00 to 10.30pm inside the barrel-ageing room of Cantina di Soave, where the Cantina’s precious wines patiently rest.
Attending will be city officials, restaurateurs, winery owners and people of the area. The evening will be divided into two parts, introduction of the project and the limited-edition bottle, and then an auction of the initial lots of the special bottle.
The auction will specially address three different groups: businesses, restaurateurs, and individuals, each auction section with its own format. In addition, it will focus on numbers of cases and not on the value of individual lots, with the objective of putting into circulation as many special bottles as possible, thus expanding throughout the entire Soave area.
The three “super-sommeliers,” Enrico Fiorini, Gianluca Boninsegna, and Marco Scandogliero, well-known to the public through their programs on TeleArena, have joined the cause: they will conduct the auction, with their considerable professional expertise and warm, outgoing personalities.
The evening event will conclude around 10.30pm with “toasts, etc.” in the Rocca Sveva’s dehor.
